Frequently Asked Questions

Menstrual panties provide protection during your period. They are panties made of four layers in the crotch that are designed to absorb discharge, keep you dry, and prevent leaks. Waterproof PUL fabric, for example, is used for this last function. The panties are worn like regular underwear; they are soft and comfortable. Menstrual panties are worn this way. So, you don’t need to use an additional sanitary pad or tampon. Menstrual underwear is breathable and promotes a natural and healthy menstruation. They are made from hypoallergenic fabrics and there is no longer a risk of toxic shock syndrome (as can happen when using tampons or menstrual cups). Menstrual protection panties also help reduce small urinary leaks, sweating, and intermittent hormonal discharge. So, you always feel secure. Do you have other questions? For first use, it is recommended to wash the underwear twice to ensure optimal absorption. Wash by hand in cold water or in the machine. Do not use detergent and let it air dry.

You wear the underwear like any other "normal" underwear. You put it on under your usual clothes, pants, dresses, no matter what. You can wear it for up to 12 hours. In the evening, when you come home from work or school, wash the underwear and put on a new one.

First, choose your target group. Are you looking for panties for teenagers or for women? In the list of briefs, select your preferred style. We offer hipster panties, low-rise and high-rise briefs, seamless briefs, comfortable briefs with elastic waistbands, and more. Each product description includes sizing advice so you can make your choice with confidence. You will also find more information to determine if the briefs are suitable for light, moderate to heavy, or heavy discharge.

Not at all! You just need to put on the underwear. It is not necessary to use washable sanitary pads or anything else inside the menstrual underwear. Just prewash it twice before the first use (with a mild detergent at 40 degrees and air dry), then put it on. Your soft bamboo or organic cotton underwear works as full protection and absorbs the equivalent of up to three tampons.

Wash your underwear in a cold machine wash (40°C) with a mild detergent (not too scented, as this can cause irritation), but do not use fabric softener afterwards. Then let it air dry (no tumble drying). Are you traveling? In that case, you can hand wash the underwear in cold water. You can also use our eco-friendly detergent wipes. Then air dry, and you're all set.

It is not always easy for young girls who have just started their periods to use sanitary pads or tampons. At school, it is not obvious to change them. You have to make sure it doesn’t get noticed when taking the protection out of the backpack, etc… (which, by the way, makes a lot of noise). Moreover, they feel a bit "different" because they use a thick pad or tampon. Menstrual underwear helps them solve this problem; the underwear has a nice design and is incredibly comfortable. Since they fit well, they don’t have to worry, even when playing sports. It’s good for their self-confidence, for nature, and for mom’s wallet 😉. Additionally, there is no risk of toxic shock syndrome like with tampons or menstrual cups.

Contrary to popular belief, you do not get soaked by your own flow when wearing menstrual underwear. The top layer of the crotch is breathable and dries very quickly. The airy fabric allows the liquid to flow quickly inside the underwear, so the surface feels dry. The liquid is thus drained, collected, and retained by the absorbent fabric underneath. Additionally, unlike internal protections such as cups or tampons, menstrual underwear allows blood to flow freely, so it is not trapped in the vagina, which is the main cause of bacterial growth. A difficult word for "toxic shock syndrome," a bit more familiar.

It is not necessary to change your underwear unless you want to. Most underwear can be worn for 10 hours, so you can easily change them at home after school or work. Their absorbency has been tested to ensure you can wear your underwear safely, so you won’t feel uncomfortable after wearing them for an extended period.

The fabrics have been selected for their sanitary properties. Bamboo fiber is even a natural antibacterial agent. The briefs are also made from breathable organic fabrics and have an Oeko-Tex STANDARD 100 certification. Even after 10 hours, the underwear remains hygienic and odorless. They are therefore nothing like sanitary pads, which are made up of 80% plastic and thus also harbor bacteria and promote odors.

It's an initial investment, but unlike sanitary pads or tampons, menstrual panties are reusable and can last up to 7 years. One pair of panties can replace 2,275 tampons* (over 7 years). Menstrual panties therefore allow you to save money in the medium term (*disposable protection saved => 5 tampons per day for 5 days of menstruation, 13 times a year, over 7 years = 637 euros saved).

After receiving your package, try on the underwear with the protection. The menstrual underwear should fit well while remaining very comfortable. If the underwear is too tight, you can exchange it for free (provided it has not been used). Contact us to create a return label via the chat on our website or by email at info@moi-et-marie.com.

In West Flanders, where we live, the period or menstruation was called "Aunt Marie." And people would say "Aunt Marie is visiting" to refer to a menstrual period. There is no source on this, but "Marie" probably refers to "Mary Beatrice Kenner." In 1956, she invented a menstrual belt, the "sanitary belt" in the United States. It is a kind of belt around the hips and between the legs that holds the cloths in place during menstruation. It's a bit like the menstrual underwear before its time. Marie and Me is therefore also a tribute to this creator who put women's comfort first!
