Frequently asked questions

Menstrual briefs offer protection during menstruation. These briefs are made up of four layers around the crotch to absorb discharge, keep you dry and prevent leakage. Waterproof PUL fabric, for example, is used for the latter function. Briefs are worn like normal panties, but are soft and comfortable. That's how menstrual briefs are worn. So you don't need to use an extra pad or tampon. Menstrual briefs are breathable and promote natural, healthy menstruation. They're made from hypoallergenic fabrics, and there's no longer any risk of toxic shock syndrome (as can be the case when using tampons or ladycups). A menstrual protection panty also helps reduce minor urine leakage, sweating and intermittent hormonal discharge. So you always feel safe. Do you have any further questions? Send an e-mail to info@moi-et-marie.com.

When using for the first time, we recommend washing the underwear twice to ensure optimum absorption. Hand wash in cold water or machine wash. Do not use detergent, and air dry.

You wear the briefs just like any other regular underwear. Put them on under your usual clothes, whether it's pants, dresses, or whatever. You can wear them for up to 12 hours. In the evening, when you come home from work or school, wash the briefs and put on a fresh pair.

First, choose your target group: Are you looking for panties for teenage girls or women? From the list of briefs, select your favorite style. We offer hipster briefs, low- and high-waisted briefs, seamless briefs, comfortable briefs with elasticated waistbands, and much more. Each product description includes sizing advice, so you can make your choice with confidence. You’ll also find information on whether the briefs are suitable for light, normal-to-heavy, or heavy flows.

If you'd like further advice before making your choice, send us a message at info@moi-et-marie.com or via the Messenger button on the home page.

Not at all! Simply slip the panties on. There’s no need to insert washable sanitary towels or anything else inside the menstrual panties. Just pre-wash them twice the first time (with a mild detergent at 40 degrees and air-dry them), then slip them on. Your soft bamboo or organic cotton panties provide complete protection and can absorb the equivalent of up to three tampons.

"Machine-wash your menstrual briefs in cold water (max 40°C) with a mild detergent (preferably unscented, as strong scents can cause irritation). Avoid using fabric softener. After washing, leave to air-dry (do not tumble dry). On the go? You can hand wash your menstrual briefs in cold water or use our eco-friendly detergent wipes. Then, simply air-dry, and you're all set.

It's not always easy for girls who have just started their period to use sanitary towels or tampons. At school, it can be difficult to change them discreetly. You have to make sure they don’t get noticed when you take the pad out of your schoolbag, which, by the way, makes a lot of noise. What's more, they may feel a little 'different' because they're using a thick pad or tampon. Menstrual briefs solve this problem; they have a pretty design and are incredibly comfortable. Since they fit snugly, they don’t have to worry, even when exercising. It's good for their self-confidence, good for the environment, and good for mom's wallet 😉. Plus, there’s no risk of toxic shock syndrome, unlike with tampons or menstrual cups...

Contrary to popular belief, you won’t get soaked by your own discharge when wearing menstrual panties. The upper crotch layer is breathable and dries quickly. This breathable fabric allows the liquid to be absorbed into the panty, so the surface feels dry. The liquid is then collected and retained by the absorbent fabric underneath. Unlike internal protection like cups or tampons, menstrual panties allow blood to flow freely, so it's not retained in the vagina, which is the main cause of bacterial proliferation. A tough word for the slightly more familiar "toxic shock syndrome".

You don't need to change your menstrual briefs unless you want to. Most menstrual briefs can be worn for up to 10 hours, so you can easily change them at home after school or work. Their absorbency has been tested to ensure you can wear them safely, so you won't feel uncomfortable after extended wear.

Fabrics have been selected for their hygienic properties. Bamboo fiber is even a natural antibacterial agent. The briefs are also made from breathable organic fabrics and are Oeko-Tex STANDARD 100 certified. Even after 10 hours, the underwear remains hygienic and odor-free. Unlike sanitary towels, which are made of 80% plastic and can carry bacteria and promote odors, these are designed to keep you fresh.

It's an investment at first, but unlike sanitary towels or tampons, menstrual panties are reusable and last up to 7 years. One pair of panties can replace 2,275 tampons* (over 7 years). So, menstrual panties really do save you money in the medium term (*savings from disposable protection: 5 tampons a day for 5 days of menstruation, 13 times a year, over 7 years = 637 euros saved).

Once you've received your parcel, try on the panties with protection. The menstrual panties should fit snugly, but still be very comfortable. If the panties are too tight, you can exchange them free of charge (provided they have not been used). In West Flanders, where we live, menstruation or the menstrual period was called "Aunt Marie" . And we used to say "Tante Marie est en visite" to refer to a menstrual period. There are no sources for this, but "Marie" probably refers to "Mary Beatrice Kenner". In 1956, she invented a menstrual belt, the "sanitary belt" in the USA. It's a kind of belt around the hips and between the legs that holds cloths in place during menstruation. It's like menstrual panties avant la lettre. Marie et Moi is therefore also an ode to this designer who put feminine comfort first!
